Milly Fagan
Milly joined Elsternwick Croquet Club in the early 1960's and was a very active member. She held the Office of Club President on two occasions and was Club Treasurer for many years. She was a top Referee, a Level 1 Accredited Coach, and a long time Pennant Player.
Milly was appointed Liaison Officer to the then Caulfield Council and was a key player in the dispute with the Bowling Club over our land. She was assisted in this role by another prominent member of Elsternwick, Mrs. Gwen Yates.
Milly was at the Club when the Caulfield Council condemned our old Club House which was situated at the north end of the grounds, near the dividing fence with the Hopetoun Gardens. To build a new Club House was a very expensive and major project and it was decided to relocate the Club House to where it now stands thus giving us the luxury of two 'A' lawns.
Milly celebrated her 99th birthday in August 2005, and we were honoured to have her open our 2005-2006 season by running the first hoop.
[Editors note: Milly was too modest to supply a list of her Croquet successes, tournament wins, etc. Any information or pictures will be gladly appreciated. Please send to secretary@elsternwickcroquet.com.]
